On February 3, 1957, the Lord had His first Sunday with Gibson Baptist Mission.
April 6, 1957. First Sunday school.
January 6, 1958. First business meeting at the home of Mrs. Roy Jones. Six members and Brother John Noah Langely present.
February 20, 1958. First prayer meeting.
April 1958. John Noah Langely becomes full-time pastor.
May 11, 1958. First Training Union and Sunday night services meet.
June 9-13, 1958. First VBS.
June 23-29, 1958. First Revival.
April 1959. One acre of current church property purchased. Fence built around property.
January 3, 1960. Preliminary plans for church were accepted.
October 9, 1960. Groundbreaking ceremonies. Funded through WMU assistance and a loan from Louisiana Baptists.
March 12, 1961. Dedication ceremony.
June 1964. Church approved purchase of the front lot next to the church (where parsonage is now). Church also approved to purchase and move a house to that lot ($8000).
January 1965. Pastor John Langely resigns. Pastor Dan Rushing follows as pastor. Pastor Bob Irmen would succeed Pastor Rushing.
1967. Two bedrooms and a second bathroom are added to the parsonage.
April 21, 1968. Ottis Burns is ordained to the ministry of Jesus Christ.
December 1969. Bids accepted for construction of the Education Building.
January 1970. Pastor Bob Irman resigns and becomes pastor of FBC Amelia.
Brother John Forsman becomes the next pastor.
September 27, 1970. Dedication services for the Education Building.
1971. Purchased property behind the parsonage to square off the land.
Brother Floyd Cooper becomes pastor.
August 23, 1978. Brother Ronald Cope becomes pastor.
July 1, 1979. GIbson Baptist becomes a self-supporting church.
July 15, 1979. Bus ministry begins.
May 18, 1981. Church council meets with FBC Thibodaux to transition from a Mission to a Church. Permission is granted.
June 10, 1981. Board of Trustees is formed: J.E. Gullick, Melvin Gullick, Wilmer LeRay, Nela Giroir, and Herman Crawford..
November 8, 1981. Church is organized. Homecoming and celebration ceremony with pastors from the Association in attendance. Main speaker was Brother Leon Hyatt.
During Pastor Cope's tenure, a lot of improvements were made to the facilities: every room painted, PA system installed, purchase of new copy machine, and new piano.
July 1982. Pastor Cope resigned.
March 20, 1983. Brother Elwood Crews is ordained as pastor.
October 6, 1985. Brother Urbin Joe Pitre is elected as pastor.
May 1986. Edith Gullick is elected to the Board of Trustees to fill the place of Melvin Gullick who died on April 14th.
July 1989. Debt from building of church is paid off. Last payment was $60.48.
October 18, 1989. Homecoming with Bob Irmen speaking. Record high attendance in Sunday school: 95. Note burning ceremony.
February 1993. Pastor Pitre resigns.
Repairs to the parsonage in preparation for new pastor.
Brother Wayne Cheramie becomes new pastor.
May 1994. Church votes to sell van and stop bus ministry.
September 4, 1994. Brother Bobby Hill becomes new pastor.
November 30, 1994. Pam Hill is elected to be piano player.
1995. Major work on facilities: new windows, walls were stuccoed, new carpet and drapes in the church. Purchase of new vacuum cleaner.
1996. New air conditioner in Education building.
Purchase of new chairs, tables, pews pulpit, communion table, and 2 small pews for the pulpit. Old pews were donated to Faith Baptist Church. Purchase of 100 new hymnals. New lights installed in Education building, walls painted, floors stripped and waxed, ceilings in church lowered, and new lights and fans put in the church and Sunday school rooms.
February 1997. Cemetery Committee formed. Gibson Baptist Cemetery.
May 1997. Received certificate for Cemetery.
Canopy (14'x11') installed over front entrance wtih 2 cement posts and shingle roof.
July 1997. Pastor Bobby Hill resigns.
1998. Parsonage sold and moved off of land.
November 1998. Completion of new parsonage.
Darrel Porche becomes next pastor.
January 31, 1999. Dedication ceremony for teh new parsonage. Pastor moves in.
June 6, 1999. Pastor Porche resigns.
August 29, 1999. Bobby Hill elected as new pastor.
Sidewalk removed and current sidewalk in installed with covered walkway to education building.
July 2000. Pastor Bobby Hill resigns.
2001. New roof on education building to cover the original flat roof.
September 2001. Purchase of 1.5 acres from Jerry Cobb (back of property).
2001. Major repairs on Edcuation building because of flooding.
2003. Brother Marvin becomes pastor.
Brother John Williams becomes pastor.
Brother Ricky Ross becomes pastor.
January 2022. Brother Chad Young becomes pastor.
2022. The church begins to host the Ignite Homeschool Co-Op.
March 20, 2022. Day of Remembrace service to honor those friends and families who have passed.
May 30, 2022. The congregation cook for youth at a local children's home and spend the day with them playing games and bouncing in bounce houses.
June 29-July 1, 2022. VBS!!
August 14, 2022. Pastor Chad Young is ordained.
August 20, 2022. A joint workday at the church with the Ignite Homeschool Co-op.
August 2022. Launch of the Gibson Seniors Ministry.
October 2022. Launch of the Gibson Handyman Ministry.
November 20, 2022. The church donated and delivered Thanksgiving meals to local families in need.
December 19, 2022. Family Movie Night at the church.
December 2022. The church donated and delivered 10 warm coats to children in need.
December 25, 2022. A couple of Gibson youth performed at a piano recital, which was part of our Christmas morning service.
March 2023. The congregation take a special offering--almost $7000--to fund the first year of Gibson Thrive, an afterschool ministry serving the students in Gibson.
May 2023. The Cross Church youth group volunteers to help remove flooring and paint in the Education building.
May 9, 2023. Pastor Barry Smith from Arkansas visits with his association and preaches at Gibson.
June 2023. Gibson is host to the SBC Serve Tour, which is part of the SBC Annual Convention. Gibson activities included door-to-door ministry, home repairs, and renovation to the Education building.
June 29, 2023. Ignite Homeschool Co-Op has a workday and paints the entire kitchen, including cabinets!
July 2023. VBS at Gibson has almost 50 children and adult volunteers worshipping Jesus.
August 2023. Gibson launches Thrive, an afterschool ministry serving children from the Gibson School.
